Today, my husband happened upon a picture of a young girl suffering from anorexia. When he showed it to me and I commented how terrible it must be for anyone going through that, my 8 year old daughter asked if she could see the picture. My husband instinctively said no but I insisted that he show her. I explained to her why the girl looked that way and what could have led her to such extremes. She was horrified. Not at the sight of someone who is skin and bones, at the aspect that someone could do that to themselves. I helped her to understand that it's a disease and that people truly need help to fight it. The compassion I saw in her eyes was overwhelming. Please, please, please. If you are suffering from anorexia, understand there are people out there that love you and care about you and want to help you be healthy. Even 8 year old girls you don't know.
